Kitchen Tutorial: Part 2 (Fridge and Freezer)

This is a continuation of the Kitchen Tutorial. See Part 1, Part 3, and Part 4 for the rest of it.

To Make The Fridge And Freezer:

Step 1: Measure a few inches down from the top of the box below the sink. This will be the top of your freezer. It has to be a bit low on the box because the sink is taking up the space inside the box. I didn’t measure exactly where my sink ended, so it actually peeks out in the freezer a little and it’s just fine.

Now measure the width of your freezer: a line that travels one inch from the side of the box to one inch below where your sink ends. The freezer’s height is as high as you want, but leave room for your fridge below. Once you’ve outlined this rectangle, cut out three of the lines with the razor blade, leaving the short side closest to the edge of the box attached for your door hinge. And before you open the door, read Step 2! PS: You’ll need an inch of cardboard on either side of your door to provide support for the hole we just made. My freezer was 5.5 inches tall and 8 inches wide.

Step 2: Score the inside of the box along the freezer hinge. This will help the door actually open up. Otherwise, your cardboard might fold in the wrong place and get ugly. Trust me. You’ll have to eyeball where you score it, but just score from the top of the door hole to the bottom of the door hole.

Step 3: Cover the hole and surrounding area with contact paper, with the door open. I know, it sounds weird. Once you’ve done that, cut out the contact paper that is over the hole, leaving 2 inches or so to wrap around the edge of the hole. To make nice corners with the contact paper, cut diagonals in the overhanging contact paper to the corner. This covers up the raw cardboard and makes it look nice. Do the same with just the door and wrap the contact paper around the edge (To make nice corners on the door, cut the corner off the overhanging contact paper before you fold it over).

Cut out some contact paper about the size of the door but longer on one side and put it on the inside of the door, wrapping it around the hinge of the door and along the inside of the box. This provides the hinge of the freezer with some support and lines the inside of the door.

Step 4: Do the exact same thing for the bottom part that will be your fridge. My fridge is 6 inches tall by 8 inches wide. Are you ready to kill me yet?

Now onto the Stove and Oven!
